My Crazy 2nd Day..
On my 2nd day at work, I was faced with a rather d
ifficult situation. My boss was out of state for a meeting. There were only 5 of us running the restaurant: 2 waitresses in the front & 3 cooks in the back. I was in the front with one of my younger classmates. The 2 main cooks in the back speak Chinese & very little English, while the other cook speaks Ilocano & has a very heavy accent.
We were scheduled to host a party at our restaurant, & it went bad from the start. The customers came in with a very bad attitude & expected us to kick out other customers that came in to pick up their food. They were snobbing us up & down & saying we were rude. My classmate & I just took it in & kept our smiles on because the customer is always right. Throughout the evening, they expected all of their food out in an instant while it was still cooking, & continued giving us their dirty looks. Since it was a small gathering, we still allowed phone orders & pick ups. They would snob everyone who walked into the restaurant making them feel unwanted & hurt. They also accused us of letting people steal their food when they weren't even doing so. When it was almost time for closing, the wife of my boss came in to see how everything was doing. As soon as she walked in, our customers changed into perfect angels. They were just trying to give us a hard time. All in all, I learned a lot from this experience. It taught me patience & self-control.
I give a lot of credit to those who work as waiters & waitresses because they face a lot of crap people fail to recognize.
All in all, I think my job Rocks. My boss is awesome & very friendly. The cooks in the back, although very limited in English, are very friendly & are constantly trying to fatten me up by feeding me. The customers are great & some tip very generously. I think I have the best first job I could've asked for.
My Advice to You Who Don't Like Your Jobs..
* Get a new Job
* Make your current job Fun
*
If you're not planning on getting a new job, try your best to make your current job enjoyable. If you keep thinking work is hard, work is junk, you're never going to see the good in it. Anything can be fun if you make it. You'll never see the good in your workplace until you look for it =]
