This summer I am away from home for my internship. I'm camping/living in an RV in a seasonal campsite. I finally have reliable internet here at the campground. They had a horrible Wi-Fi connection at first so they had it repaired. I was going crazy not using my computer, lol. Some camping pics:
When I wake up I vote for my mom’s brickfish entry and then I go to work. When I return I work on my internship report, vote for my brickfishers and sugarlooters, enter many sweepstakes, & listen to online radio stations. I keep up on my endless amount of email from my various social networking profiles. During the school year I have eCourses (online classes) and assignments, but right now I have some free time to go internet surfing. I really could use new notebook pc as mine is almost four years old and rather slow.
I’m graduating in December with my bachelor’s degree in HTM and I computers so much that I’ve decided to attend art school for an associate degree in graphic design. It’s hard to believe I’ve been a member of brickfish for a little over a year and a half. This is my 56th entry on the site! I am a student, brickfisher, intern, camper, and I am a PC. If u like my entry can vote every 24 hrs until Monday July 20, 2009 11:30 PM (Pacific Time). Thanks so much!

They have decided to start this campaign over again. Since you all know me as being “Green Girl” here is my entry. If you like it you can vote every 24 hours until May 22, 2009 1:30 AM (Pacific Time). Thanks!
After looking at some of the other entries my work in trying to help the environment seems somewhat insignificant compared to the other brickfishers’, but I suppose every little bit counts. Together we can all chip in and save the environment. With all the breaking down of boxes, rinsing out bottles, crushing bottles and cans, etc., I spend about 2 ½ hours a week on my green efforts. I wish I had the time to do more. Now for my blog...
Being green is a battle.
I use reusable bags. Many stores have gotten on the bandwagon and have started to sell them. I love to help the environment by recycling and my city does not collect plastic bags, so I decided that we should stop using them. They are not that expensive, most are 99 cents. The only problem that may be associated with shopping with reusable bags is that some stores feel too awkward because they do not fit on the handles of the bag holder or feel inconvenienced to deal with the cloth bags. Also in some stores when you first purchase the bag they put in a plastic bag along with your other items without even asking if you would like to use it. Of course I would like to use it, why else would I be buying a reusable bag if I had no intention of using it? You can keep your evil plastic bag thank you very much! The few plastic bags we do get go back to the store and into the return bins so they can get recycled.
Being green is a battle.
I reuse boxes. We have been using CFL lightbulbs for years. Not only are they more energy efficient, but man do they last a long time! Now if I could only get everyone to turn off the lights when they leave the room.
Being green is a battle.
As for recycling, I recycle anything and everything that can be recycled. Our recycling bins are given for free by our city so I was able to order more. Every other Monday I set out four bins filled of crushed recyclables to be picked up the next day. One time this past December the bins were frozen to the driveway and I was unable to do that recycling week. It is usually raining or snowing when I have to put the bins out, but I think my efforts are worth it. Recycling is awesome; however we do not have the greatest recycling workers. They throw the empty bins on the driveway, cracking them and recyclables can be seen down the street that they dropped and did not care enough to go back and pick up. Hello, I did not go through all the trouble recycling just to have you throw them on the ground, litter bug! My family could care less about recycling and are constantly throwing away recyclables. I have to go in the garbage to save them. My brother actually had to ask me what recycling is. What are they teaching them at school?
Being green is a battle.
I recycle ink cartridges at staples (other office stores have a program too). You receive $3.00 for each cartridge so recycling them is good for both the environment and typical broke college student like me. I collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House so they can recycle them to raise money for the children. I am also donating my family's four old cell phones at my church to be recycled to raise money for another organization. Recycling is a free way to help others in need while still saving the environment.
Being green is a battle, but I will continue to fight.

My Grandma used to make Martian Salad every Christmas and Easter. That's what she called it anyway, because of the bright green color it has. Most people refer to it as Watergate Salad or Pistachio Salad. Not having her recipe I decided to find a basic one and changed it to make it look & taste like her's as much as possible.
It's perfect for the holidays, because it's so easy to make. I made it both for a Hawaiian themed party (perfect because it has pineapple) and a Halloween party (perfect because of its bright green color).
Here's what you need:
- 1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
- 1 (3 ounce) package instant pistachio pudding mix, or the nearest size available
- 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
- 1/2 (10.5 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
- A bit of milk, depends on which brand of pudding you buy
*Do not use flavored marshmallows or sugar free whipped topping. It will not be the same.
*I use JELL-O brand pudding & Cool Whip topping
Directions:
In a large bowl, make the dry pistachio pudding mix with the milk, then add the drained pineapple. Fold in thawed whipped topping and marshmallows until well mixed, just slightly smashing the marshmallows. You can refrigerate until chilled, but I like to put it in the freezer just prior to serving for about 5 – 10 minutes if it’s going to be outside for a barbeque. Makes it hold up longer.
*Note: the secret to this turning out right is to completely & totally drain the pineapple. Don’t leave a single drop of juice, just squeeze it all out. You can reserve the juice for another recipe if you want.

I've created the WebPages below using a 30 day trial of Adobe Illustrator. They are a little distorted because I wanted you to be able to view everything without scrolling over to the right. They were rather huge. To see the orginal big versions of the webpages check out my photo album. I enjoy using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop in my graphic design courses. I hope I can receive Adobe so I can do my homework at home.
Here is my blog on eLearning. It is an idea that has already been created but I have yet to see it come to my University. I’m talking about eBooks. The Economics course that I’m currently taking is listed on eCourses so my professor can post quizzes online. The other links on there remain blank though. I think it would be helpful to post textbook materials on the site as well.
Here are the problems I face with textbooks. First, I can only fit in my backpack what I need for the classes I have that day. So if I have Economics on Mondays and Wednesdays I cannot cram it in my bag on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Well sometimes I have some spare time on those days to do my econ during breaks between classes, but since I could not carry my book. I have to wait until I return back home to read the chapter. Time is wasted, and in college you do not want to waste time, it’s too valuable. The university has many computers available on campus. Had it been posted online I would be able to get a head in the course and maybe my back wouldn’t hurt so much from haling those things around.
Another problem with textbooks is that most students only have a small dorm or apartment in which to store all these textbooks. I should know. I have a whole bookshelf full of them that the bookstore wouldn’t sell back because they were going to start using a new edition.
Also if other students are like me, they don’t waste their time getting ripped off by the campus bookstore. The only problem with buying online is that you have to hope that the package arrives before classes start and you have to pay for shipping. With the eBook you would just download the file and be able to access it right after it was paid for. The cost would be lower for students as well.
Finally, how many trees are being cut down to produce all these textbooks? With the eBook students could just copy & paste what few notes they need and print them. The ebook is the textbook for the 21st century college student. It save time, it’s economical and environmentally friendly. Not to mention easier on the back.
Now let’s get started with the learning.
To begin go to the University’s home page and click on the eCourses link. Then log in and select the Economics link. You then come to the webpage below. Click on course material.

As you can see there is every chapter for the textbook available. Chapter 1 was easy so let’s click on Chapter 2.

Now you must select a section from within Chapter 2. Let’s check out Section 2.2, because believe me it’s the hardest.

These WebPages are just 2 pages of the textbook I have the joy of reading. Yay me! (sarcasm) I created a Figure 2.4 link on all the pages to use as a quick reference as you read through the section. It helps to fully understand the concept of the circular flows. Also I put the key words in bold to make it an easy read.

Did you learn something? Good! Get ready for your quiz on Wednesday then, lol. Ttyl.

For my entry I made up a super hero. Hope you enjoy her story below.
Hi, I’m Green Girl, some people call me Environmental Girl, anyway, welcome to my blog. I’m a senior in college studying Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. The environmental engineering profession works to protect and manage our air, water, and energy resources. Environmental engineers quantitatively analyze the environmental changes that inevitably result from human activities, designing strategies to remediate problems, minimize impacts, and measurably improve environmental quality. Of course, being an over-achiever in everything, I have a 4.0 GPA and I’m going to graduate with honors.
In my free time I do everything to help the environment locally in my community. To establishing recycling programs to holding seminars on saving energy to starting garden clubs. I’m also a role model by only buying organic and recycled tees, totes, and more. My super powers include growing green instantly (plants, flowers, grass, trees, etc.), minimizing landfills, and flying.
I also have a boyfriend. Have any of you heard of Captain Planet? Well he’s my man. His super powers include: Superhuman strength, speed and stamina, Flight, Invulnerability, Super-breath, Telepathy, Psychokinesis, Shape-shifting, Control over the elements, and Matter transmutation. However, Captain Planet also possesses weaknesses to pollution, radiation, toxic waste, smog, etc. Standing up together for everything environmental-friendly, we make the ultimate power couple, LOL.
So as a superhero I do my best to stop all of the bad and inform others about what good they can do. What do you do to help the environment? I’m just one of many heroes though. You all can be a hero too. Together we can help save the world. As I always say to the evil villains, “Go green!” LOL. ttyl.
