A few years ago, my church decided to add Cambodia to the list of local needs and foreign countries we support with our missions offerings. All the money we take in for missions goes directly to the countries we support…none is kept for administration. Through the Foursquare denomination, we met a missionary whose main concern is the orphanages in Cambodia, and it has been our joy to provide completely for two of them. For the past three years, we have housed, fed, clothed, and provided education for all the children in these orphanages, and the widows who take care of them. The cost for each orphanage is $16000 a year. In addition, every year our church sends a team of volunteers to do help out with some of the physical needs of the buildings, i.e. building a sewer system, repairing the second story of one of the buildings, building a wall, etc. They do as much as they can in 10-14 days. The orphan’s life is hard, but the joy they find in life is inspiring. The history of Cambodia is tragic….with education and care of the orphans we can help turn that around. I would like to help the next team to go, and maybe go with them!

As a makeup artist, I love to help people look their very best, literally putting their best face forward! Personally, my favorite looks have always been the ones that look completely sheer, smooth and flawless. I have also been inspired by the versatility of the alcohol based paints I have used in some character makeups, which are sheer, yet blendable and durable.

As a fine artist, I have always loved watercolors for the same reason...the ability to layer one color over another and not lose that translucent, airy feeling - like looking through colored glass. Beautiful to look at, each one is unique and special. And since I always look at a face as a canvas, I thought how exciting it would be to combine the two. Imagine pure color that allows the beauty of the face to show through - and go wherever your imagination takes you!

My "Watercolors" line would be a line of colors that are mixable, like watercolor paints. They would be pure pigment that could be mixed to create any color you desire, and versatile enough be used for eyes, cheeks and lips. There would be no limit to the number of colors possible, or the ways they could be applied. They could be as sheer or opaque as needed, depending on the look. Delicate or bold, the possibilities are endless! Place two colors next to each other, and a third over the middle of them, and you get three colors with a beautiful blend and no seams....wonderful for eyes, but also perfect for contouring a cheek or lip.  Allow one color to dry before layering on the next, and a unique look is created. Or apply the colors side by side for something completely different.

The line would be water-based, but I would also like to create a mixing solution that would be more durable, including a pre-mixed in fixative. The amount of liquid would determine the strength of color.

I would like to see them packaged two ways. First, in a black palette, like the watercolor paints you had when you were a kid, with the lid serving as a place for mixing or experimenting. Each palette would have a color scheme like brights or neutrals, for instance, Renaissance Reds, Monet Purples, or Baroque Golds. Each palette would also include white and black.

Second, I would like to see each individual color in liquid form, in a clear jar, with a black lid, that could be mixed and matched. Each color would come with an eyedropper so you can control the amount of pigment extracted from the jar. This part of the line would also have colors not included in the palettes, such as neons.

The line would also include some accessories - liquid shimmers and metallics and that could be mixed right into the color, highlighting colors for cheeks and under brows, a clear gloss/sealer for lips, and a "wet look" gel for eyes, all packaged in clear tubes with black lids.

The beauty of this line is its versatility for day or night and compatibility with the rest of the Smashbox line of products. Imagine a watercolor eye with a bold liner – perhaps a cat eye! Or a cheek with the translucent sheen of a pale pink, combined with a well-defined lip in a bright hue. No matter what color look you are going for, the answer is right there, ready to be mixed up to your exact wishes. No watercolorist could ask for more!
