I always thought that Internet fraud would never happen to me. I was wrong. It did happen to me three weeks ago. I’ve found out when I went to the mailbox and saw where I had three bounced checks. I could not understand how I had checks bouncing when I should have had $650 left. I have always kept my checkbook balanced persistently. I have had a checking account for 20 years and had never once bounced a check. I do realize that there is a first time for everything so I made it a point to go over all my checks and rebalance my checkbook. Once again my balance was showing that I should have had $650 left. However I did not. So I called the bank to find out exactly what was going on. They proceeded to check out where the money was spent and let me know that I had purchased an Xbox in India. Now I was in a quandary. I have been known to sleepwalk. Maybe in my sleep I drove to the airport, got in a plane and flew to India where I purchased a new Xbox with my visa. Anything is possible, except for that. After debating the issue I realized that they had gotten me. Internet fraud had picked my pockets clean. The most stressful part of the whole situation was that there was not anything that I could do about it. Even though the bank was going to reimburse my funds I still had a terrible feeling just as if some one had broke into my home and stole my most valuable possessions. I can assure you this is something that you don’t want to go through yourself and I hope that you never do. I have always been very protective of my checkbook and my credit cards. I hold my hand on my wallet when I walk through crowds so that pickpockets can still my wallet. I always lot my doors so burglars cannot easily walk in and take things from my home. I lost my doors on my car so that it will not get stolen. I am here to tell you your home burglar alarm will not keep out identity thieves
I recently watched an episode of the Dateline only NBC where Chris Hansen was busting people committing Internet fraud. When I saw they were going to be caught thought to myself that is one more criminal off the streets. Once again I was wrong. This brought me the reality of how callow I was on the conviction rates of Internet fraud. They caught them in the act in the act, had the evidence in their hand, and had the criminal setting in the same room with them; however there was nothing they could do about it because international laws evidently do not apply to these criminals. The most that will happen to these crooks Is that they will get a slap on the wrist .These coward’s are lurking in high-rise offices and dark hallways from Zimbabwe to the next street over. If they do get caught I can assure you they will be out of jail and back on the street before you get your checking account straightened out. There is no shame in their game whatsoever. They are classic narcissist who definitely will derive pleasure from your pain. They have nothing to lose in so much to gain than it is worth them taking a risk to profit from your hard work. With only a few minutes on their keyboard, they can’t take what has taken us years to work for.
I always thought that the reason people got ripped off with Internet Fraud was because they were very nieve.I thought it was because they were given their valuable information out to freely. Wrong again ! I was always safe with my credit card numbers .I still am not very sure Of how they got my credit card number from the Internet or even if they did steal it from the Internet. I do know that it was used over the Internet. I have invested in any shredder. I suggest that anyone else who would like to cut down their chances of getting ripped off should do the same. It will decrease the chances of their important credit card  Social Security number, in checking account information getting stolen. There are many things that we can do to protect ourselves. Unfortunately there are many things they can do to steal your money. I would suggest keeping a check on checking account and credit card balances frequently. There are many companies out there that you can sign up for protection with. I have been checking into that myself. The few dollars that it would have cost me a month to be protected will have saved me a lot of time and trouble if ever those thieves get a hold of my credit card numbers instead of my debit card numbers. Fortunately I am protected by visa. It is still a headache to get all of that taking care of though. I’m sure in the one that has ever had this kind of problem can relate to what I am talking about.
I am not going to let those thieves rule my life by stressing over it happening again. I can only do so much to prevent these things from occurring and so can you. In this day and age technology can help us and be used against us. It is up to us to protect ourselves every way possible to prevent criminals from accessing of valuable information. There are many web sites on the Internet that can help you prevent identity theft it would be wise of every one to use technology to protect themselves as much thieves used technology to steal from us. I can assure you that the little tiny will take you to protect yourself will be worth it in the long run. Otherwise someone in India will be thanking you when they clear the third level of halo.
