I Love Shoes!
Truth be told… I love shoes so much, I do have the guts to say that they are a piece of art! When I try on a pair of shoes, they sing to me. I know how Cinderella felt when the glass slipper fit.
I desire shoes like nothing else in the world. I literally can put a 5-inch heel and feel MORE physical pain when I take them off and place them back in the box!
I recently went back to college and I have so many pairs of shoes that I couldn’t take them all with me. I had rather packed all my shoes then some of the clothes I took.

I truly have a love affair of the sole!

Best of Both Worlds

My Favorite Necklace
I wear my necklace that has Nefertiti and Our Lady of Guadalupe on
always. It is one accessory that I do not leave home without.  I can’t function if I don’t have it on. The charms were given to me at birth from both my grandmothers that I treasure dearly. Nefertiti, because she represents my African-American heritage and Our Lady of Guadalupe because of my Spanish heritage. The names, according to Wikipedia roughly translates Nefertiti  to "the beautiful (or perfect) one has arrived", and Our Lady of Guadalupe is known in Spanish as "La Virgen Morena", which means "The brown-skinned virgin". I think my grandmothers really love me!!

Spring Break En Mexico!

Twelve students including myself and faculty from Ivy Tech - Bloomington and Indiana University traveled to Calnali, Mexico during this year's Alternative Spring Break 2008. We engaged in a variety of service projects and activities, it was the most humanitarian and rewarding experience I have ever encountered in my life!
Our first project was laying a concrete floor for a single mother with two children. They live at a bottom of a hill and their floor washes away when it rains. We had to cross a river on boulders carrying shovels and heavy bags of concrete. Upon completion the family was so pleased, the woman cried and cried because she was so happy we provided a floor for her children.

Another day we went to an indigenous village whose people are direct descendents of Aztecs. The village was extremely poor and it was interesting because they spoke Natuatl,  a native Aztec language. We visited a school where we gave books and supplies to the children. The children were so grateful for everything we brought them. I will never forget their faces!

My spring break has been an amazing adventure. I have immersed myself into my culture and have become part of it. We have been to the town market, climbed a mountain and visited the wondrous pyramids of Mexico. It has been breath taking!
Seeing the poor financial conditions of Calnali, Mexico as opposed to being told about them made all the difference in the world. I was able to see first-hand the reality of how serious
the problems are. I just didn’t learn about the culture and conditions, I was a part of them.
It was refreshing to me that although Calnali was poor in financial and material things, yet
it was rich in natural beauty, color and culture.
This spring break trip forced me to test my flexibility and to step outside my comfort
zones mentally and physically. One of the hardest parts of the trip was leaving while there
was so much to be done. It makes it easier knowing that I gave it my all and seized the
chance to make a difference.

GO BIG RED!!!!!
The Indiana University Hoosiers will smack down this March, I guarantee it!

Indiana is ranked 13th in the ESPN/USA poll and will continue to be among the Big Ten leaders!

This season with outstanding freshman,
Eric Gordon who leads the league in scoring and his ability to move on the court, will set us aside from all others and take us to the Final Four! Along with D.J. White, Armon Bassett, Jordan Crawford, Jamarcus Ellis, and Lance Stemler they will give us the victory this March!!!!! The Indiana team has never looked this good!! The Hoosiers have grown as a team and matured as a road club too.
I am so proud to be a Hoosier, I live in the mecca of basketball!! The truth of the matter is that basketball season is exciting in the state of Indiana and we always look forward to March Madness!!!

This is me wearing my Indiana t-shirt proudly. I better get it out because March is right around the corner! I am going to need it when we win the NCAA championship!! A new banner will go nicely with all the others we have at Assembly Hall!!

    GO INDIANA GO!!!!!

We used to hear the slogan, "Dont Drink and Drive" but now it is more apparant that we use, "Don't Talk and Drive." I want to share a story that happened to a close friend of the family last week.

I know I for one am guilty of using the cell phone while driving, so I want
to share my story from this week as a warning and wake up call to all of
us.....

Tuesday morning I was coming to work and while crossing Calumet Avenue at
Highland Street noticed out of the corner of my right eye that a huge semi
was coming north on Calumet Avenue not looking like it was going to stop.
As I slammed on my brakes the semi took off the better half of my front end.
My car spun around and ended up heading north....luckily I was not
seriously hurt. The police officer said if I had not broke I probably would
have ended up seriously injured or dead. I feel VERY FORTUNATE to still be
alive.....

The truck driver that ran the red light was very apologetic, saying he was
distracted because he was on his CELL PHONE......

I would like to propose that our government, local officials or brickfish to address a policy, not so much banning cell phones but come up with a safer way to use cell phones while driving. I, as a teenager have come to the sense and reality that using my cell phone while I drive is not going to happen. I will pull over to use it or better yet wait and answer until I get to my destination. I have too much to lose from answering a call or dailing one. What do you think? Should cell phones be banned from driving?
