Okay, so I was reading some essays by Michel de Montaigne (for those of you who haven't heard of him, he's a 16th century essayist who wrote some really good pieces analyzing and critiquing society; check out his writing if you're interested) and I ran across this excerpt from "Of Cannibals" and I thought it would be a nice touch to add here.

"The reputation and worth of a man consists in his heart and will: therein lies true honor. Valor is in the strength, not of arms and legs, but of mind and courage; not in the spirit and courage of our horse, nor of our arms, but in our own. He who falls persisitent in his courage, 'If he slips or fall, he fights upon his knee.' He who, in danger of eminent death, is in no way daunted in his assuredness, he that in yielding up his ghost beholds his enemy with a scornful and fierce look, he is vanquished, not by us but by fortune; he is slain, but not conquered. The most valiant are often the most unfortunate. So are there triumphant losses that rival victories..."

Ahhh, such true words, Montaigne. I hope you at least read all of that, and took some meaning out of it, no matter how you interpretted it. Love always, Melissa
