For my whole life, people have made fun of me for being short. I am almost eighteen years old, and I am
only five feet tall
. When I was young, the short jokes were horrible. Now, I am able to laugh and joke with my friends about my height, and I am comfortable with the way that I am.
The reason that I can do this, is because of basketball
.
When I was in the seventh grade, I decided to try out for the school basketball team. I was about four feet, seven inches tall, and I was a little white girl. When I walked out onto the court for tryouts, heads definitely turned. However, I gave it my all, and I tried as hard as I could to impress the coach. On the last day of tryouts, the coach called out the people who had made the team, and
I was not on the list
. The coach must have seen the disappointed look on my face, because he walked over, put his hand on my shoulder, and said, "Hey Carri, try out next year. You know,
after you grow a bit
."
That is just what I did. My eight grade year, I came back onto the court. This year, I was a four foot, nine inch white girl. I gave it my all once again, and this time,
I made the team
. Take THAT coach!! :)
I have been on the basketball team at my school ever since then.
I have played varsity basketball for four years now
. I lettered in varsity basketball, and I have earned Academic All-District patches for each of these years.
Basketball has given me so much confidence, and has helped me to accept my appearance. As my grandmother used to tell me, "
Dynamite comes in small packages
!"

I know exactly how you feel about being short, in fact, I'm also 18 and am only about 5 feet tall. It's tough, but there are definite advantages to being short, like we'll never hit our heads on door frames ^_^ Here's my daily, plz support my campaigns too! ^_^

That's awesome! Power to the short people! I just turned 18 and my height has been 5ft since middle school. I've learned that being short is a good thing. You can fit in small places and avoid SCARY SCARY rides at the amusement parks that friends pressure you to go on (sometimes). Anyway, your blog is wonderful! Basketball is a fun sport and look at the success you have made. It's amazing! See, size matters sometimes, but effort and dedication matter the most! You have all of that!

You are so inspiring! Never give up and short people can do as much and more than tall people. No one should be judged by their apperance, you don't know what that person has in them to offer! Good things do come in small packages for sure!
