My one piece of advice is to get tested, not only for HIV but for all STD’s. It is especially important for young adults such as college students, like me, to be tested. It is a known fact that 1 in 4 young adults or teens have an STD and nearly 50% of all sexually active college students have some form of HPV and that is not something to be taken lightly. One of the most dangerous parts about this is that many do not even know they have a STD and therefore may be passing it on to others, spreading the epidemic even more. Not only can having an STD be dangerous to the others you could be passing it on to but it is dangerous to your health. Many STD’s have painful side affects and some can lead to cancer or even death. The only way to help stop the spread of STD’s is to get tested!!! By getting tested you can prevent passing it on, you can receive treatment if there is on (but not all STD’s can be cured), and you can have a sense of well being knowing that you are either STD free or you are able to be apart of helping stop the spread of STD’s. So please get tested! If not for yourself, do it for your significant other or future partners and help stop the spread of STD’s! If you want more information go to the National HIV and STD testing resource website (http://www.hivtest.org/index.cfm).
