Well, to start off my second year of college, I am transferring schools in the fall because the new university is offering me a full-ride scholarship (tuition, books, fees and a free laptop) for enrolling in their Honors Academy/Program, which is a LOT better than what my previous university was offering me in financial aid. When I went to them to ask how to apply for the Dean's Scholarship (having made the Dean's List, BOTH semesters) they told me I couldn't get that scholarship because I didn't have enought "financial need." After that lovely conversation, I decided I needed to transfer schools. I am fully aware that I need to pay off the student loan I took out for last year's tuition and have been working since summer break started for me back in mid-May.
My Summer consists of a LOT of WORKING in an attempt to start saving money.

Ever since I came back from university, my stepdad and I have gotten into some pretty STUPID arguements, in my opinion, wherein he has basically laid down the ultimatum of, "If you can't act like you live here and do more around the house, GET OUT." Unfair and honest to God unreasonable because I have two younger brothers in the house that generally do a lot less than I to begin with, and I'm a laid back person. Archaic in ideal and entirely unrealistic with his old-school, "Women should do housework," beliefs, I know, but that's the way it is and it has been said to me on several occasions. Everything is always my fault around here and it never ends well. I'm always to blame for every little thing that "never gets done" and since I'm a GIRL I'm supposed to do things like clean the house and what not, which I think is the stupidest thing I've ever heard and I told him so to his face. I don't care if you ARE a girl, it makes no difference whatsoever in my opinion as to whether or not you are capable or as to what you should do in life. So I made up my mind to step up my game a notch.

While I was at university, I worked three part-time jobs that could be mixed in with my class schedule. An hour here, two hours between these classes, at minimum wage, it took me the whole semester from mid-Jan to mid-May to save up $1000 and that's not counting the money I spent for medical expenses along the way (if you read my Breast Cancer blog, you understand). With the money I saved from all that work, I bought myself a white 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo "Larry" at a garage sale that was so random and lucky that I simply could not leave Larry there for only $2000. I only had the $1000 so I borrowed a grand from my mother, which I fully intend to pay back over time even though she says I don't have to.

As soon as my next two paychecks came through, I took out my own car insurance plan (being 18 they kinda had fun with my quote...:sarcastic laugh:), registered and licensed it, bought 4 new tires (as the ones Larry came with were BALD), and got an oil change. I honestly never saw more than about $20 of those entire paychecks and that went towards gas!

When you look at my profile page it says I'm "Here for: Prizes" because I AM. I'm trying to earn as much scholarship money as possible and am CONSTANTLY searching for some scholarship to apply for. Brickfish? I have about 10-20 campaigns running just about all the time. I'm open to voting exchanges because I understand the need for support. I try my hardest to stick to my word and vote daily because I don't want anyone to lose faith in me.

I am currently pushing 60+ hours part-time (mostly evenings 4-10/11) at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken at $7.15/hr (minimum wage) and may not be able to continue to do that as they seem to be cutting back on hours throughout the staff. I a telemarketing job for Kirby Co. I was just promoted to Telemarketing Manager as of July 28, so my hourly salary went from $8/hr to $10/hr+ bonuses for reaching the set goals, etc. I apparently seem to be pretty good because I've been booking appointments consistently, my most being 15 in one shift (4-9). I applied for a job at the local Pizza Hut as a Delivery Driver, where (once I FINALLY get around to starting) I'll make $7.15/hr + $1/deliver + tips (also for a 4-11 timeslot).

I'm hoping that I can possibly juggle all these jobs for the remainder of the summer and save up enough to pay off my insurance for the next 4 months and start making payments towards my $20,000 in student loans for last year's term because even though I don't have to pay them back until six months after I graduate and college will be free for the next 3 years, I know that the loan will begin to accrue interest in the meantime and I simply wish to graduate without any straggling strings of debt.

I'm working hard for the summer so that I won't have to listen to my degrading stepfather anymore. The way I figure, the harder I work, the less I have to be around the house, the more money I can make, the faster I can get the heck outta Dodge and not have to come back.

PLEASE SUPPORT MY AMBITION!  POST this entry in places where it will attract attention and please keep me watchlisted. Leave a review and I or my mother will be sure to return the voting / posting support.

Way to go girl...sounds like you have your summer all mapped out... I will post it to my site tom. You sound amazing to be working so hard at your age... some teens think life will be handed to them on a platter and its not going to happen.. Good Luck to you.

Wow, I think you have a great head on your shoulders! I've never met anyone has driven and determined as you are, I hope you carry that quality all through life, because it sounds like your a person who knows what she wants and the that hard working ethic you have will open many doors in you life. Choose your path wisely! The best of luck to you and someday you will be able to walk out the door in the middle of you step fathers degrading words!

Wow, you are a strong exceptional young woman. I applaud that you stand your ground against sexist stereotypes and make your own way. The reason you are in college is so you could support yourself in the future, not be a submissive wife. So again, I am impressed with all you've done at 18! Good luck to you and I hope you win this campaign! 5 stars!
