The Scoreboard Doesn't Always Show the Real Winner

I know that we have all heard that before. But I want to share with you the story of this team.  This is the Tishomingo County High School Lady Braves Soccer Team 2007 - 2008.

This group of girls deserves to be recognized for more than what you could ever see on a scoreboard.  Soccer is a new sport to the Northeast Mississippi area. By new I mean it has not been given much attention and most of the schools in this area have only had their soccer teams for a few years.  Tishomingo County was no exception to this.  This past season was only our 2nd season of high school soccer.  During their first year these girls showed all their opponents they were here to stay! They ended their season with only 1 win.

Then the 2007 - 2008 season rolled around.  Once again this group of girls showed up to play soccer.  They came to every practice with the attitude of winners.  They wanted to learn all they could about soccer.  They also added some experience to their team with the transfer in of 2 seniors.  Joscelyn and Brittany added not only experience but leadership to this new team.  What most people don't know is that in the state of Mississippi soccer is played during the months of November, December and January.  Yep...outside playing soccer during the winter.  I have seen this group of girls pile on the underarmour shirts and leggings, put on gloves and caps and 4 pair of socks and hit the field with a determination to play the game the best they knew how.  I have seen them play when it was raining, sleeting and even snowing!

As parents we could see a change in our team.  We could see their attitude toward the game change.   When mistakes were made on the field there was not blame to be thrown around. The team as a whole would step up, identify the problem and make the changes to correct the problem.  We could see a difference in the coaching staff also.  These girls were coming together as a team!

By the end of the season this group of girls (that had very little soccer experience) ended with a record of 9-9-1.  What an amazing turnaround compared to the season ending record for the previous year.  Not only did they end with an amazing record but 3 of the girls signed college scholarships!

Now the new season is almost upon us.  This team will once again rise up and show their true spirit.  They will show that they are ready to face any opponent.  They will show they are willing to put in the work during practice to be the best they can be.

These girls are REAL winners!!

Kathy - If someone hasn't already told you... You are an amazing person. Caring, supportive, AWESOME MOM, and a great friend. I love this entry and have it WL and voting for it... I will post it to my site as well as a couple of others place I have access to... Soccer is "THE SPORT" at least by my standards... They definitely don't get enough attention. They work HARD as a Unit and have amazing Team Spirit. You can see it in their faces. You tell JOS to "Go GET 'Em and kick some soccer BUTT!!! LOL. I played soccer in H.S. and it is alot of FUN. Not many sports are fun any more... It is too competitive. We are going to keep you at #1 here... Loree

The "deepest ever" living fish have been discovered according to scientists at depths of 4.8 miles in the Japan Trench in the Pacific, and were captured on film. The scientists have been using remote-operated landers designed to withstand immense pressures to comb the world's deepest depths for marine life. On film, the fish, known as Pseudoliparis amblystomopsis, can be seen darting about in the darkness of the depths, scooping up shrimps. Monty from the University of Aberdeen said the 12” long deep-sea fish were surprisingly "cute”.
