Flashes of Hope is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to creating powerful, uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life threatening illnesses. The Mom's group at our local childrens hospital Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughter started a chapter. The moms in this group raise money to fund the chapter by selling bracelets. I was first introduced to this organization when my daughter Hannah was photographed in Feb 2007. My daughter Hannah had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in Oct of 2006. Flashes Of Hope is run by a wonderful staff of volunteers. What happens is a photographer takes dynamic black and white photos of the child and their family and friends. The photos are priceless. The child and their family are given 2 8X10's and all of the proofs plus a cd of the photos. The photographer signs over the copyright to the family so they are able to upload and print as many of the photos as they would like. I never truly realized how important these photos are until last week when I attended a Mom's Helping Moms meeting. One of the organizers of our chapter of Flashes Of Hope showed us some photos of a family that had been photographed a few weeks prior. A rush had been put on the photos because this little boy does not have very long to live. It is great to know that he will get to see these wonderful pictures of himself and of his family and that his family will have the portraits to treasure for many years to come. If I do win this contest I will be donating all of the proceeds to Flashes Of Hope! http://www.flashesofhope.org/
