My dream is to create a positive, healthy environment for the students at Georgia College Early College.  The students score from approximately 25-40th percentile in state testing scores, and they are first generation college students.  They enter the Early College program based on a lottery system.  Many of these students come from home lives much unlike my own, enduring hardships that one wishes no child should experience.

I am pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching degree with a concentration in Health Education and am a graduate assistant in the athletics department as a certified athletic trainer for the women's basketball team at my university.  I am lucky enough to have created a relationship with various Athletics coaches and players that are willing to volunteer their time and resources to assist in teaching these students various sports. 

Many of the students I teach are overweight, obese, or underweight for their body frame.  The topic of nutrition hits home for myself as well as another student-teacher.  She was bulemic while I was overweight at their age.  We have both come to realize that health is something that will be with you for your entire life.  Making these kids become active begins while you are young, and exposing them to various sports is difficult due to a lack of resources.  We do what we can with the equipment we have at our homes, but these kids deserve more, and I am determined to provide it for them.
