This past weekend was Tau Gamma Chapter's Teeter Totter A Thon to support the fight against Juvenile and Women's Arthritis.  Arthritis is especially important to our sorority because have two active women that were both diagnosed with arthritis. Every year, AOII and the Sigma Nu Fraternity team up and teeter totter for 24 hours before the Homecoming Game.

All the donations made go towards our national philanthropy, Juvenile and Women's Arthritis and the Sigma Nu's national philanthropy, Make-A-Wish Foundation.

If you are interested in making a donation towards either of these foundations, contact 1-800-283-7800 (Arthritis Foundation) or visit the websites www.arthritis.org, and www.wish.org.

It would be GREATLY appreciated. =)

my job is sisterhood.

this is a diary of my times as a member

of alpha omicron pi women's fraternity.

i cannot put into words how much these memories mean to me,

so here is photo proof of some of the best times in my life.

big - i love you.   you have been there for me through thick and thin.

let's always keep our gpb secrets.

little - you are amazing and i cannot wait until november 5th.  you are perfect for our family.

to the rest of my girls - this past year has been very memorable.

you girls all shine so bright and i love you all.

"Why" is my job sisterhood?  It's all the things I mentioned in my blog and more.  It's the friendships and being there for your "sisters" through thick and thin. It's hard work and fun rolled in to one.  It's being a part of a philanthropic organization and helping others.  It's knowing you are part of a national organization of dedicated and talented women.  If the question is "why" should you vote for me or "why" do I need this scholarship, it is because the award would greatly help me with my college tuition.    I wouldn't trade AOII, the memories, or the sisterhood I share with my wonderful ladies for anything.  So, please vote for me.  I would really appreciate it!

TAJ, crackers and alpha love forever.

FRESHMAN YEAR:

------

SOPHOMORE YEAR:

This week has been "spirit week" for my college recruitment period.  During this week, we prepare for the upcoming recruitment.  We practice our songs, door stack, speeches, and clean up around the house.  It has been so nice to see everyone again and spend time with them.  Each day we have practice from 11-3:30 then have activities at night.  Our first football game is Saturday, followed by "Excite Night" and "Playfair" on Monday/Tuesday.  Excite Night is a chance for all the new freshman to meet new people and check out our "Phase" a.k.a. the gym.  Playfair is when all the freshman, orientation leaders, Alpha Chis (disaffiliated greeks in charge of recruitment) and the Greek community get together and play fun games.  Hopefully by the end of this week, I'll have some pictures up and some good stories to tell.  Remember to vote every day!!  Here are pictures from our bonding night!!!  We did a human knot and a fun balloon game. =)  PS. I am the crazy one in the skirt - BRILLIANT IDEA

----

september 16, 2006 = first football game!!  today's game was so amazing.  a few of us got together before the game and got ready.  We then headed over the field and saved some seats for all our ladies.  Perfect ones, too!  50-yard line right up front. All our ladies looked absolutely gorgeous and we had a complete blast.  I will post pictures up here soon!!!  Tomorrow is excite night!  Jair and I are going shopping tomorrow for excite night accessories, so that'll be fun. =)

----

September 17 - Tonight was Excite night!!  It started off a tad boring, but when freshman showed up it was a blast!!  We played bingo, painted and got to hang out with so many amazing people. =) Here are some pictures from the night.

----

tonight was playfair.  it was SOO SOO much fun meeting so many awesome people.  i had a rad core group with our sweet pepperoni password and cool running man dance and I had the best dancing partners EVER! =)  We couldn't really take that many pictures but here are a few!!  More will come later tonight!!!

----

RECRUITMENT IS OVER!!!  Bid Day was AMAZING.  20 amazing, beautiful girls stepped out in AOII letters today making this the best recruitment AOII has had in quite some time.  I was able to talk to most of these girls during recruitment and you have NO idea how nervous I was on Bid Day before they revealed their letters.  See, on the night of Preference (last night of recruitment), we invite girls that we want in our chapter.  After they attend two preference ceremonies, it is up to them to decide what house they want to be a part of.  It is nervewracking for me and the girls on my side because we all develop rush crushes and are nervous to see if they wanted to be a part of AOII or not.  On bid day, they all find out if their first choice is the house they will be apart of.  They are then given our bid day shirts and run out and join our house. =)  Our theme for bid day was "hollywood" and we had a pink/black/silver color theme.  We had boas, amazing bid day bags and decorations for our BEAUTIFUL house!!!  I pref'd three girls and two of them went AOII!! YAY YAY YAY!!!!  Here are some pictures!! they are so beautiful!

WE NEARLY DOUBLED OUR CHAPTER!!! =)  BID DAY 2006

AOIIhouse2006Bidday.jpg

----------------------------

Here are some recent pictures of our first trust sisterhood.  We had a "ropes" activity and some other really fun activities.  There are also pictures from our new member process.  After Bid Day, the new members are required to complete a 6-8 week program before initiation.  Here are some pictures!!! =)

I just read the comment war between you, that guy mike and your mother, and just actually read all of your post for the first time. I have to say, I hold the same opinion. I don't want to be as insulting as Mike was, but this is entirely ridiculous. The only sense to be made out of any of this was when your mother said that perhaps you should have focused on more of your philanthropic duties, and your actual jobs within the sorority, and not a half-assed blog about a football game.
Apparently you are so busy with your many jobs that you couldn't even put the effort into rewriting your blogs for the contest - it seems that you just copied and pasted blogs you wrote at the actual time of these events and didn't bother to look them over since then. You constantly say that you'll post pictures soon!!! It looks to me that the amount of exclamation points are only exceeded by your excessive amount of useless and exclussively personal pictures of you having fun with your friends.

There is barely any mention in any of this of your duties or your good works for the community, something that is worthy of recognition. In my opinion, the main problem with this is that it failed to accomplish the contest goal in an attempt for a unique angle on a job. You could easily have written from the same perspective without saying "my job is sisterhood" and congesting your blog with annoying pictures that mean nothing to anyone outside your sorority.

Again, I'm sorry, but no one cares about BID DAY. If you want to illustrate what about being a Sorority Sister is a job, you should have done that and not exposed this contest for the bogus, hollow popularity contest that it is (if you get picked to win).  These pictures show you at a football game, eating ice cream and doing absolutely nothing. There are no pictures of fundraising or helping anyone with anything. You turned your post into a very basic high school yearbook photo spread, complete with dedications and shout outs. Come on, put a little effort in!

I am not trying to say that what you do is not a job, I'm simply saying that what you wrote does not describe a job. It describes someone who likes having fun and enjoys hanging out with her sorority sisters, with added and clearly out of place mention of a plea for donation to a fund at the beginning. The intent behind this post makes no difference; I maintain that you did not follow the guidelines of the contest no matter what your commenters and supporters have to say.

I think you should have asked your mom to read this before you posted it, because you could have had a real winning case for scholarship money. Unfortunately, having a blast with gorgeous ladies does not make for fundraising.

I'm sorry to be that guy, but this is total crap. this is not a job. your description of "why" someone should vote for this is actually a description of why someone should NOT vote for this. " It's the friendships and being there for your "sisters" through thick and thin."
exactly. it's not a job. i am a dedicated member to my family, who has no money. we are all constantly there for eachother both emotionally and financially. we support eachother through thick and thin. Same with my group of friends. I don't expect an award for that, and I don't call it a job. I am also a student, and that is a full time job, but i have an actually "JOB" besides that. This wasn't a contest to write pointless, picture-filled blogs that look like a sorority girls picture wall in her room about helping charities, it's about writing about your JOB. You could just as easily take pictures of you and your dog and claim that your job is to take care of your dog. That doesn't mean it counts. My only vote for this would be to disqualify it from the contest. And i don't say that hoping I would win, because there was no way for me to get enough votes in time. I also don't  have a sorority full of people to vote for me.

My only good thing to say is that hopefully if you did actually win, i'd hope you'd stick to what you call your job - which can only be being a philanthropist - and donate the money to a worthy charity and not your damn tuition.

sorry, but i know i'm not the only one out there to feel this way. i wish you the best with your sorority and your charities, but you did not follow the guidelines of the contest and should not win.

I hope that when my daughter grows up and goes off to college, that she has the same great memories and support system.  I'm sure your parents are very proud.
