In the Spring of 2008, my son Harley was awarded the Outstanding English Junior Award.  That is an almost unheard accomplishment for a dyslexic.  He does not like for people to know that he is a dyslexic .  He doesn't like labels or being judged.  He is also a private person.  He reluctantly let me enter this campaign,and agreed to let me share a little of his story.  He has always studied hard, did above and beyond what was asked of him.  He was determined to work hard and maintain a positive attitude, even when it was difficult.  Although he is intelligent and is consistently on the high honors list for his grades, he always said once he got out of school, he did not want to go to college.  He insisted when he was done with high school, he was done.   This fall he announced he wanted to go to college for  two years to meet his requirement to become a state trooper and also continue on to get a four year degree to become a physical education teacher as an optional career choice.  2008 was the year that Harley realized that his hard work is worth it and wants to continue to persevere.  College being a goal awakened in 2008 was definitely one of the best moments of 2008 and of our entire lives!
