I HATE how women in the media are portrayed as sex objects or toys for men. It makes me mad how some rappers have no respect and all for women and all they talk about is "lovely lady lumps," "smack that" and "sexy can I". It makes me just as mad of how women in those explicit rap music videos put up with it and go along wearing skimpy outfits and dancing around the rapper like porn stars! It's like, have a little dignity for yourself, don't let guys talk about you like that because you're better than that!

Women are smart, independent, and above all, just as good as men are.

i'd have to agree. but looking at it from a different angle, these women set themselves up to be disrespected to get airtime and attention, popularity. so it all makes me sick really. and i could go ON and ON about this, but i wont. haha.

Wow, thank you for all your support! I meant for this to be a side thing next to my Planet Beautiful entry as you can tell the blog isn't grammatically correct and I didn't have a lot to write about at the time besides the music industry. I'm really suprised about all the popularity! =)

Anyway, since I can't edit my blog, I just want to add that not only is it the music as many have pointed out, but it is also in fashion. Victoria's Secret and ESPECIALLY Victoria's Secret, I know they may have cute stuff, but the way they sell it with sex. Abercrombie, Hollister, and stores primarely targeted to teens and young adults also have a sexist image. In those stores, they are trying to sell the clothes, but in their ads, the models aren't wearing anything. If you are as unhappy as I am about this, get your voice heard! Write letters to the company's or (even though it might be hard) stop buying clothes from them, and buy from stores that don't sell sex.

Thanks again for all the support! I reciprocate to everyone who votes.

I agree! I like to go out and dance but there are some songs that I refuse outright to dance to at a club because they are derogatory towards women. I think that women have a right to go out and dance and not be torn down by the media madness or slandered while they enjoy themselves! There are some songs out there that build up women but not Nealy enough. Women have to start the trend by standing up for themselves though and now supporting theses songs or the men that produce them.

I am an Interactive Marketing Major and the sad truth is that sex doesn't sell, but sex dose cause attention which is what most people seek. By buying clothing form stores like Hollister and ABercrombie often a person feels as if they are attractive like the models that pose and work the stores. With Victoria Secret women want to feel sexy and the way in which it is projected to the media sells that image, unfortunately it can be viewed as degrading but it is a part of our culture. At least we do not wear only VS outside!

If you look to European marketing ads you will be even more offended, I have taken a course on consumer behavior and the concept that in America nudity would never fly, however a skip across the pond and it is on billboards. http://www.nakedeurope.org/ads/index.html, Don't go if you don't want to see it, but it is an eye opener.

GREAT TOPIC THOUGH! YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT! GOOD LUCK!
