If I could choose a generation to describe myself when it comes to music it would be the 60s. Which is why my personal playlist consists of 60s classics. Not only that but during this era my dad was a soldier in Vietnam so it became the music I grew up listening to. In a way it's one of the few things we have in common. That's why I love 60s music so much. Each song tell a story and it's something everyone could relate to. However the emotion you get from the songs are never the same. It depends on that person's life experience. It's personal. For me these songs represent the struggle that I've gone through whether it's from myself, my family, or a situation. #1. The Animals- House Of The Rising Sun (Listen Here) This song represent me growing up in Pattaya, Thailand. I never realized how little I had going for me there until years later. In my mind the neighborhood I grew up in was a playground. I remember a castle slide, the giant tree my friends and I would climb everyday, a big castle that I thought was amazing. Until my senior year of High School that's what I thought of it. This magical place. Sitting down looking back at the pictures for my project I realized it was such a run-down neighborhood. There was no future for me there. I was lucky enough to have parents that wanted the best for my future because they too grew up with nothing and they wanted better for me. #2. Bob Dylan- Like a Rolling Stone (Listen Here) Like A Rolling Stone describes the period of my life where my family had nothing. We literally came to the U.S. with our clothes and a box of stuff. We didn't have enough money for a house. We ended up living with my Aunt and Uncle. After that we lived with my dad's military friend. We ended up moving a lot. I didn't know English at all practically. I felt lost in this unknown place. #3. The Beatles- Let It Be (Listen Here) This was a time of my life where I accepted what I have and decided that no matter how hard it's going to be I'm going to make it. I'm going to follow my dreams and I will do whatever it takes. I decided that I wasn't going to let my situation influence me. Instead use it to make myself stronger. I didn't want what my parents did for me to be a waste. I worked as hard as I can. I went to summer classes while other kids were out playing with their friends. I took classes that were interesting to me: sport medicine, science camp, floral design. I read books after books. Anything to gain more knowledge. #4. Otis Redding- Dock of The Bay (Listen Here) This is a song that I find myself listening to every once in a while. Whenever I get stressed out or upset, I listen to it and somehow everything just melts away. It's a very relaxing song and it makes you think. #5. The Doors- Riders on The Storm (Listen Here) Riders on the Storm is one of the strangest song I've ever listened to. However, I love the lyrics. Basically it's saying don't take things for granted. One minute someone might be there, and the next they could be gone. The world can be harsh and unexpected. #6. Bob Dylan- Blowin in the Wind (Listen Here) Every time I listen to this song, it makes me want to go out there and change the world. It's a reminder that I want to be apart of change and not just sit there watching it happen. I want to go out there and change lives. It just make me focus on going to school, get my nursing degree and travel the world to help people who someone else turned away because they don't have the money. #7. Niel Diamond- Sweet Caroline (Listen Here) Every time I hear this song it gets stuck in my head for the rest of the day. I love it. It puts me in such a good mood. Every girl have a love song that they just can't stop listening to. Well this is mine! =)
