Karen Robinovitz, Fashion World Insider
Karen Robinovitz got her start at Women’s Wear Daily, where she covered haute happenings and openings in New York for over three years. Today, she is a seasoned journalist, who covers fashion, trends, style, designers, celebrities, entertaining, art, home design, dating/relationships/sex, beauty, fitness, travel, pop culture, and lifestyles of the rich and fabulous. She has been a Contributing Editor at both Marie Claire Magazine and Elle Magazine. In addition, she has written high profile pieces for Harper’s Bazaar, the New York Post, the New York Times, Glamour, and In Style. Her work has also been featured in Details, Gotham, Hamptons, New York Magazine, and TimeOut New York, amongst others.
Her first book, “How to become FAMOUS in two weeks or less” (Ballantine), a sassy hybrid of nonfiction personal essays and tongue-in-cheek, self-help how-to tips, was released in July, 2003. Walt Disney Productions acquired the rights to produce a feature film, and Reveille, a Universal-based production company, acquired the reality TV show rights, with Ms. Robinovitz as a co-producer. Her second book, “The Fashionista Files: Adventures in four-inch heels and faux pas” (Ballantine), which designers Michael Kors and Diane von Furstenberg, raved about, hit shelves in September 2004 and is in its seventh printing. And her third title, “Fete Accompli! The ultimate guide to creative entertaining” (Clarkson Potter, September 2004) is in its fifth printing.
A regular on VH-1’s cult-hit, “The Fabulous Life,” Ms. Robinovitz has become known for her television presence. She recently filmed a pilot for her own show on BRAVO, a reality version of “Sex & the City,” where Ms. Robinovitz is “the Carrie type.” Plus, she has been featured as an expert on E!, We, Style Network, CNN, VH-1, Good Day New York, Entertainment Tonight, ABC News, Fox News, the WB Morning Show, and morning shows across the country.
A media veteran and fashion world insider, Ms. Robinovitz consults for esteemed companies in search of new identities or attracting new audiences, from the .1% that makes up the high brow market to the masses, focusing on fashion, media, lifestyle, design, marketing, promotions, PR strategy, strategic partnerships, special events, branding and imaging, and out of the box initiatives that build buzz and brand awareness.
In addition, she has been a spokesperson for venerable companies such as AOL, Bath & Body Works, Pepperidge Farm, and more and hosted glittery, interactive events across the country for Marie Claire Magazine, DKNY, Armani Exchange, and Marshall Field’s.
It is impossible to pin Ms. Robinovitz down as “one thing,” as she has her finger on the pulse of pop culture in all aspects. With her keen knowledge of luxury brands and sense of chic, Ms. Robinovitz is something of a “lifestylist” for celebrities and royals alike, handling everything from personal styling and wardrobe consultations to personal shopping, special events, and curating libraries with the latest, newest, hottest books along with classic first editions and rare vintage finds.
Karen Robinovitz lives in New York City with her husband.
