Rachel's Campaign Tips

Hey everybody! I spend a lot of time checking out all your awesome campaign entries, so I’ve got some ideas on how to help your entries rally as much enthusiasm as possible. I want to share some tips with you because I want to see all of you do well, and because I get asked a lot of questions about campaigns in general.

A great way to rally support for your entry is to use the tools in the Share This Entry box found on the page of your entry to spread it across the internet. Use the tools here to:
  • Post to Websites - Click this button to post the entry on your Myspace, Xanga, LiveJournal, Friendster, and Tagged accounts.
  • Email to Friends - Use this option to send the entry to your friends on Brickfish or enter the email addresses of your friends outside of Brickfish.
  • Bookmark - This tool allows you to favorite an entry outside of Brickfish. Use it to share an entry on sites including Facebook, Digg, Technorati, StumbleUpon, and more!
  • The URL link works in emails and IM's and anywhere else you can post a link!
  • The Embed code works in websites and blogs. Just copy the code and paste it on a forum, in a bulletin or blog, etc. to share it with everyone you know!

If you look through the Winners Page, you will notice that most of them have a profile pic (even if it’s a Brickfish pic) and a lot of them have taken some time to fill out some of the information there.
  • If you don’t want to share any personal info, be sure to check out http://www.brickfish.com/mysteriousmrx to see how a profile can still look cool and have no personal info. This obviously isn’t a requirement to do well in the campaign, but it can really help in establishing who you are.
  • It’s definitely important to notice that the winners are frequently checking in to Brickfish and participating in various activities, such as voting for and reviewing other campaign entries.

I get asked a lot of questions about blogs and pictures, so here is some advice on them:
  • If you are entering a blog into a campaign and you have relevant pictures, you should consider putting the pictures in the blog.
  • To enter pictures when you are writing or editing a blog, use the Insert Image button  and then select a picture already there, or upload a new one from your hard drive.
  • Different fonts and formatting can really make a blog more interesting to read. We've provided you with all the tools to change the colors and fonts of the text, so use them to grab people's attention!

When you submit an entry, realize that first impressions are important and consider adding a catchy caption since this shows up like the entry title.
  • I also recommend adding some info in the Description of the entry to explain the context; for example, describe the inspiration of your poster design or the setting of your photo.
  • The more information you give about your entry, the more people will get what you’re trying to do.

Thanks for taking the time to read these suggestions.  I really hope they help you pull ahead in your campaigns!

  • Relevant to the entry and/or campaign
  • More than a word or two long
  • More than just a plea for people to vote your entry

I think you should add that people can download 30-day trial versions of Photoshop CS2 and Fireworks from www.adobe.com.

MSPaint is being used here and there and it really detracts from the overall visual aspect of some of the entries.

Moving to Photoshop or Fireworks isn't as hard as everyone thinks, and it doesn't take long to get good at it. They can get help from tutorials on the web or pick-up some books from their local library.

I have a few tips (suggestions).... Please do not post photos of yourself half nude, smoking, drinking....seriously ....would you show up to an interview like that? Put your best FACE forward ladies...not your rear end! I have seen some HOTMESS just browing the site. If I were selecting a candidate to represent my company you can best believe I would NOT pick a person who is half naked, being overly seductive, smoking, drinking, cursing etc... to represent my company...so think about that when you post a photo and add your comments.....

Random thought....If a client is looking for someone to model clothes..why would you post an almost nude photo of yourself? Seriously...don't you think that they would want to know how you look in clothes.....hummmm?

Good advice, and I think it helps that you remind people about this being a community and to make it your own spot and personality. This is better than MySpace, Facebook and the like, because you are supporting people in campaigns, supporting their talents, and it gives people a great feeling of accomplishment. Myspace and those others are just places that seem to focus on negativity and gossip. This is about encouragement. Thanks Brickfish!
