Description:
I feel like this photo captures a unique aspect of the concept of need. If I had taken a picture of this tree from a different perspective, the focus would have been completely on its majesty, strength, and serene power. But when one looks down, you notice that even this mighty, old tree has a need for the support of the earth, which is why it lays down roots. I think this is a terrific symbol for the way we as human beings--no matter how successful, powerful, or independent we become--still have need. Just like this mighty tree, in humbly acknowledging our need for each other, laying down "roots", and just standing still, we thrive.
