Eagle Dancers Win!
Description:
As a Teach For America member, I worked with a very poor student population. Our school did not have a fine arts budget so I decided to do something to help our community. I created the first Middle School Girls Dance Team and we met weekly to learn dances. Soon, they were performing at district events! I then decided to enter them in a competition. I asked my school for funds, but unsurprisingly, was told there were none available. I sent out a mass email and raised $2,000- enough to cover all fees for the event! My girls won first place in their category! It was an amazing opportunity for my girls to build their self-confidence and to learn that their hard work truly reaps rewards.
