Don't get sick!
Description:
While some people may feel they will be negatively affected by health care reform and health care available to all, the fact of the matter is that many people go without health care and only go to the doctor when they are very sick. When you can't afford insurance or the insurance you have isn't comprehensive enough, what you are really banking on is not getting sick. Health care reform could possibly help save lives by allowing people who couldn't afford to meet basic needs before, meet them in the future. "Don't get sick" is not an insurance policy.

Ugh... I just got another bill related to a series of doctor visits because of this persistent mystery rash. This bill is for the lab fees, and is just over $700! This is on top of the other fees I've accrued over the time I've been sick, and the doctors did little to help me. After many, many doctor visits and many rounds of various illnesses that they "guessed" I had, it was determined that I'm allergic to something. Literally, it could be anything. Are the doctors doing anything to help me figure out what that is? No. And naturally, my limited insurance doesn't cover one cent of the lab fees. On top of all this, my benefits are running out for this calendar year, so I better not get sick again before January, which seems utterly impossible because I work with kids, and will be working in schools almost every day of the school year this year. I would also like to say, though, aside from my personal health issues, that I really appreciate all the support I've received from each of you who vote and comment daily. I really do appreciate it so much and it feels good to know that you wonderful people are behind me. Thank you. Dani

Thank you for saying something. Health care reform could seriously help our country. There are so many people who cannot afford health insurance and for those people going to the doctor can seriously deplete their savings. I just read somewhere that 90 percent of homeless people in America are homeless because of medical costs, because they got sick.

Your statement is so true Dani... I only hope this country wakes up and realizes how desperately we need healthcare reform and a way of treating everyone no matter what their circumstances.
