For Our Children
Description:
This is a very difficult time for many parents as they try to figure out how to best care for their children. The bottom line is that there are the haves and the have-nots. The haves don't want to have to give up anything. But at what cost? Isn't it American to make sure that we treat everyone fairly? Isn't it wrong for the rich to oppress the poor? I say we need this reform to get to a place where everyone has a chance at a very basic human right--to be healthy. This is a picture of my children. The rhetoric is clear, and it should draw on the emotion of the viewer to show that real people, real children's lives are at stake here, not just a few dollars on a rich person's premium.

Dear Guest, I understand that you are angry. But if you can look at the big picture--if all people that couldn't afford children didn't have them, we would have no population. I went many years not being able to have children, and then suddenly got pregnant. My husband and I were elated. My sister said the same thing you say. She said we can't afford it. I live in a remote part of the mountains with my husband and since he is a ranch hand, we don't make much money. I work part-time online, but decided to go back to school to get my degree and better our situation. I am going for a master's degree in English and Sociology. Ironically, we are now much better off than we were last year, or the year before that. Our children are insured, but there are many out there who aren't. The welfare system is not set up properly to handle the changes that have taken place over the last 40 years. It is very flawed. But it is necessary to make the changes with government to not just reward the rich. My sister is now divorced and lives in a small apartment. Her youngest child is now seven. She doesn't have insurance for him. The government says she makes too much money. She earns about $35k a year and works 10 hours a day. She earns just enough to not qualify for help, but not enough to afford an insurance policy for her son. There are millions of people that fall into this crack. They are not all lazy people looking for a handout. Most are hardworking poor. I challenge you to take a course in sociology and education. It truly opened up my eyes to the way the class system works, and it is not fair or equal. I applaud capitalism, but also thing we need to work towards equality in the most basic needs. Also, don't be afraid to sign in and show who you are. Just because you are frustrated or angry with the situation doesn't mean you should hide your identity. It is good to communicate how we feel and the reasons we do the things we do. The photo I took above is meant to represent the children of our nation who are not insured. Whether they have parents who want a handout, or parents who struggle to take care of their kids, or even parents who have suffered loss and hard times, it is to give them a voice. That is what this competition is about. Thanks for opening up the lines of communication. All the best!

I really like everything about this entry Lynn, It amazes me that America would stand to allow what is happening to so many people regarding the health care crisis...and it is a crisis. The funding solution to me is a no brainer. We discontinue giving any form of financial aid, to any other country, until we take care of our own.

if you can't afford to have children, then don't. but stop whining because you didn't have the foresight. of course kids are going to cost money: food, clothes, school, etc. Didn't you know that? Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Responsibility rests squarely on your shoulders.

What a ridiculous statement make, health care costs have gone so high for many reasons including the raising cost of immigrants that are in our country. It is stated that one thing is clear: "Undocumented immigrants are driving up the number of people without health insurance. The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 59% of the nation's illegal immigrants are uninsured, compared with 25% of legal immigrants and 14% of U.S. citizens. Illegal immigrants represent about 15% of the nation's 47 million uninsured people — and about 30% of the increase since 1980" Who do you think pays for this--we do with our tax money paid to the government!

really?! "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time."~ you sound dumb. you can't really use that analogy to having children. it's not a prison sentance! and no one's whining here except for you! often times are great and then they aren't as good. so who's to say "today's a great day to have a kid!" or "in 30 yrs i will be financially stable to have kids!"? no one knows! you sound cold and bitter~ life isn't black and white. responsibility rests on everyones' shoulders in a way. haven't you heard "it takes a village to raise a child"?
