To think the original photo was taken in 1921... I had a long conversation with a student today (whose attention span is usually about that of a 5 year old) concerning photography and the permanence or lack of permanence. The technological age is great--- we can do things in an instant that took hours upon hours of darkroom work not much more than a decade ago. But, here is my point: We don't know how long these electronic images will last. We know this original photo is 87 years old. We have photograpic evidence of the Civil War well over 100 years old. How long is a thumb drive going to last? What ever happened to the 6" floppy disc? I realize this rant has just a little to do with this wonderful photo and all the vintage photos posted lately. I guess what I'm getting at is, don't rely wholley on digital media. Remeber the traditional silver processes and their permance. We have probably lost Polaroid already. Let's not lose film, too.
