Oh, time are different? Like the native Americans had nothing to loose by allowing the new settlers here? From what I recall, they did more than just "take their jobs"... They took their land, their homes, and brought new diseases. But they were still welcomed. the USA has plently of wealth to share around. Maybe not from the common people, but the 2% that has 90% of the wealth.... or maybe some of that money being spent in Iraq (more than a quarter mil $ an hour) Anyway, if we would stop sending our jobs to Mexico because they work for pennies on the dollar, maybe we could pay them halfway decent and they wouldnt want to come here.

Guest, you should become a registered member, I really would like to be able to discuss this directly with you.

The 90% of the wealth was just a general statement about how skewed our wealth is here in the United States. But thank you for catching that typo, it was supposed to be 20%, not 2%. If you want the actual stat: As of 2001, the top 1% of households (the upper class) owned 33.4% of all privately held wealth, and the next 19% (the managerial, professional, and small business stratum) had 51%, which means that JUST 20% OF THE PEOPLE OWN 84% of the wealth, LEAVING 16% OF THE USA WEALTH WITH 80% OF THE US CITIZENS.

So can you just imagine if 80% of the population is living off 16% of the wealth, how many more people could live here comfortably if the wealth could be spread out a bit? Let me put this in numbers that are easier to picture.

If 80% of the US population are living off $20/hour, then that 1% is making $33,400 per hour! If the top 1% of the wealth was redistributed, then the current population could multiply 16 times its current size and keep the standard of living equal to that of 80% of the population. That is not including the wealth of the other top 19%. My point was this: the USA has the wealth if people were willing to share it.

This entry does not support illegal immigration... More like those European immmigrants that came illegally so many years ago should have been kicked out. But it is often ancestors of these illegal immigrants that now want to limit immigration the most. It was ok when their family came over, but once they got their foot in the door it is a whole new story.

Immigrants are not just coming here for a free handout for the government. The hardest workers I have ever met were not born here. Our society has a way of bringing up lazy people. Maybe that is why we are the fattest people in the world? Yes, I am going off topic now so I better stop

Yes, times ARE different. It's really not an adequate argument to compare the current situation with that of the Native Americans and the Pilgrims. You say even though the Native Americans had a lot to lose they still welcomed the pilgrims, if the Native Americans knew what was coming would they still have welcomed them? Besides, even using that example, just look at what happened to the Native Americans. Yea, Iraq is a waste of money, but that's using a bad decision to justify illegal immigration. First of all, yes, the U.S. is rather wealthy in comparison to other countries, but even if it was all split amongst all the world, it wouldn't be enough for anyone. In addition, it wouldn't work in a realistic environment for the same reason communism wouldn't work. Another thing, the 2% having 90% of the wealth is a stat relating to the world as a whole, this stat is hardly that extreme for the U.S. Furthermore, one has to take into account realistic constraints. A government's obligation is to its people. If illegal immigration were allowed, meaning anyone in the world could just come, the quality of life they came for in teh first place would be harmed since the goverment can't just support everyone in teh world. By the opposite argument, you're nulling the significance of country boundaries, citizenships, etc. Countries, boundaries, governments exist for a reason. Realistically, without this system, there would be chaos. This was all rather muddled. I was rushing, but I think I made the general idea clear. Finally, don't think of illegal immigration as just the argument of allowing immigrants from the Mexican border in but basically opening the gates to anyone and everyone from everywhere and while that would be great, think how unrealistic it is and how in teh end when teh government cannot realistically sustain this, noone would benefit.
