The Family Unit
Description:
This is a very important picture to me for many reasons. First because it's a picture of me, my Dad and my Mom. It represents the early sixties and how life was so much simpler! It represents when your word mean't something, when you helped a neighbor and didn't expect anything in return. You called your Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles just to say hi and not because your parents made you but because you were part of family unit that was close and always there for you! I look back on growing up and think wow if our kids could experience the childhood we had then maybe they would be more compassionate about life today. Our parents raised us to have morals, be caring of others and to have respect!

Wow Terry...3 great things about this pic. 1) I think this is the first time I saw you as a little girl,
2nd, it's a classic memory, and 3rd your description and the story behind it was dead on... nice entry

I agree, the family as a unit is being split apart. I think kids today would be so much more well-adjusted if they valued their families more...especially their parents! Almost everybody I know has zero respect for their parents...they talk about cursing at them as though it's something to be proud of! I can barely believe it. A good rule to remember is never to disrespect to people who birthed and raised you...they brought you into this world, they can take you out!!

Q. What is the difference between a crazy bunny and a counterfeit banknote? A. One is bad money and the other is a mad bunny!

It was a different era, wasn't it? When you layed down in the back window with no seatbelt, and stood up in the back seat so you could see out the windows! Now, the Patriarch and Matriarch have been gone, and with everyone spread out, it is like family units are very rare. I do not have one anymore and it is so sad. I just hope I will keep my kids and grandkids, all together, unlike my parents did. Great Entry!

I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family, I have over 21 first cousins and we are all still very close! Some of us grew up going to the same schools and many are much younger on the totem pole, but somehow we have managed to keep age as being not an issue. If someone needs something we are just a phone call away, you just don't find that anymore, when my Dad died a few years ago it was amazing many of my cousins got in their cars and drove up to 2 hours to come and pay their respects to my family, I couldn't believe it, my dad would have been so proud that they had so much respect for him and and his family, today its hard to find that kind of family closeness!

We are currently discussing American life during the 50's and 60's in my English class and this picture is the perfect representation of everything we have discussed. Beautiful. Your mother is one very gorgeous woman.
