Underneath It All
Description:
This was one of my first self portraits done my junior year in high school (I am now a freshman in college). The image shows the "ugly" side of glamour. Without the make up and tight dress we're just bodies. This body happens to need a tampon. I think men sometimes think of women as perfect specimens when they see us out in our best dresses and faces made-up. With this image I wanted to chip away at that perception and show that even in a dress and heels, we can be messy underneath.

This reminds me of the mixed media artist Jon Kessler and his advertisement for his installation "Blue Period." Just the fact that women are not as together as we seem, that we do need things like to make us feel whole and clean. In the end we're all bodies and that makes us beautiful...

I like that. Putting it in the perspective that men do love to see women at their best. It just lets me know that a guy truly loves you when he finds you ravishing at your worse.

I love this photo! It is so real to life, as the artist pointed out. When all is said and done, when the layers are peeled away, we're just like anybody else (woman) in this instance, out there. It's a very sobering reminder not to think ourselves better than anybody else.

Amazing Job. I love how simple the image is, and yet how much can be said. Never forget being real and human is the ONE thing that makes, and keeps us, truly beautiful.

I like how you actually took the time to think about what to take a picture of. Your creativity is evident in this photo and your description spoke to me as I read it. Excellent job.

This is a great shot, and idea! Shame that trash can on the left detracts from the undies. I really love the photo though!
