Night Queen in the Daylight
Description:
This is my mother- Yejide the Night Queen/ Storm the Mamawize at her outdoors shoot for a Polish hip hop magazine. I love this photo because it captures her natural beauty & contemplative demeanor. She is the embodiment of talent, grace, perseverence, intelligence, dexterity, a great role model, a wonderful mother and an all around STRONG BLACK WOMAN. She has raised my brother and I as a single mother in Williamsburg Brooklyn since 1988, all the while pursuing her performing arts dreams and keeping a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, food in our mouths and our heads in our textbooks !! She is a renowned underground hip hop lyricist, dancer & spoken word artist.
