Heredity
Description:
I wrote this song about abortion. "Pro-choicers" favor a woman's right to decide the fate of her fetus, but that shouldn't be the only decision these women are given; they have the options of contraveptives, adoption or abstenance. Statistics show that only 5% of abortions occur because of rape, or dangers posed to the mother or fetus, while the other 95% of abortions done as birth control. There are alternatives out there; unwanted pregnancy should be prevented, not terminated.

Lyrics:
I don't have a voice and yet you seek to silence me now
Well I didn't have a choice, but now I'm on my way; let's try and make this work somehow
Don't nip this in the bud, don't clip the family tree
Mom, don't make me the problem when you created me
Don't gag me in the mouth before i have the chance to speak
Before you hear me

Don't you wanna see what I'll grow up to be instead of wondering what i could have been?
And who's to say the deed will start and end with me? What's to stop this form happening again?
Well sew my mouth shut, have your choice in what you do
Just remember that it's your mouth too

They say it's your right: to take my sight, to render me blind
Well, when I see the light, will it be the world or will it be the afterlife?
I'm sorry that he's gone Mom, I'd hate to see you cry
But don't you want to be seen by a pair of friendly eyes
Don't make me pay the penalty for someone else's crime
It's not my time

Don't you wanna see what I'll grow up to be instead of wondering what I could have been?
Why now do you seek to bring an end to me before I've ever had the chance to begin?
Well sew my eyes shut, I'll leave it up to you.
Just remember that they're your eyes too.

Don't you wanna see what I'll grow up to be instead of wondering what I could have been?
And who's to say the deed will start and end with me? What's to stop this from happening again?
And now you'll never hear if I looked just like you
Hear with ears that could have been mine too.

Garrett, Great song, harp playing, guitar strumming, voice! I enjoyed listening to this song that gives voice to the unborn who have no choice or voice in the pro-choice arena. Thank you for being brave enough to write, sing, and post a song about such a sensitive subject. I wish you all the best in the scholarship contest! P.S. I posted this video on my blog so that all my friends, who are also pro-life, could hear it and vote for you too! http://www.jmcvay.blogspot.com

That was really good Garret. You're a great singer, you have good beliefs and have a way of touching people. I can't tell you how pro-life I am and seeing people out there like you makes me all the more proud to be one. I was criticised for being against abortion and to this day I'm still picked on for standing up for what I believe is right. I wish I had a way of contacting that person so I could show them this. Thanks so much for not being afraid to post this, its really made my day. Keep up the good work!

As the last minutes of our songs from the heart campaign entries tick away, I wanted to try to give every one my support as we all have our passion in music that helps us to convey what is important to us. Without music, my life would not have "color." Good luck to you!

You're what a musician is all about. The mix of harmonica, guitar, and lyrics is excellent. I also feel it is unfair for a child to pay the price of a parent's irresponsibility.

Thanks Garret, you rock man. (Sidenote: There are a few typos (i.e. from in the first paragraph chorus)
