Ever since I was a young girl I have been fascinated by the art of photography. At the age of seven I used to build my own studio complete with a backdrop, lighting and props to perform a “photo shoot” of my younger brother.
When I reached the seventh grade I took my first photography class and I wanted to learn everything I could about the subject. I continued to enroll in the photography and graphics programs all through high school. I graduated from John P. Stevens High School in June of 2003 with plans to pursue my dream of becoming a photographer.
Today I am a Media Arts & Design-Professional Commercial Photography Graduate from Middlesex County College with an Associate in Applied Science Degree. I am also a member of the Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society. However, my journey does not end here! Because of my constant thirst for knowledge I am going to continue my education at Kean University where I will graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Communications .
Although it may sound as if I have had everything figured out, the process was not as smooth sailing as one may infer. Even though I graduated from high school with the intention of being a photography student at a university I was abruptly awakened from my dream. Many people that I confided in did not think it was a practical or secure field to pursue. I was heart broken and jaded by their influences so I entered the Radiography Program at MCC. After a semester of those courses I realized that I was not happy with studying radiography, and decided to switch my major to Media Arts & Design to pursue what I have always wanted to do. I was once told that art students always come back, and I’m happy I did because it’s very important to me to do something I love for the rest of my life rather than just any job that will pay the bills.
